This is another commissioned portrait for the Project Homecoming organization in New Orleans.  Jerry is an extraordinarily nice guy.  I met him while he was working with project homecoming volunteers to rebuild the house he’s lived in for his entire adult life.

These are a couple of photos of Amanda that I took yesterday while we were out playing in the snow. We were pretty lazy for most of the weekend but finally succumbed to cabin fever and headed out, yesterday to have some fun in the snow.

Alvin on film

I just finished scanning all of the film I shot in New Orleans so I thought I would share a few more photos of Alvin that were shot on film.

Alvin

I met Alvin earlier today at his home, in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. His house was completely destroyed by the flood caused by hurricane Katrina. After using up his life savings, plus money he received from FEMA and similar organizations, he was still not able to finish rebuilding his house. Then, one day he got a call from an organization called Project Homecoming telling him that they would help him finish rebuilding his house. I was able to meet Alvin, because my friend Layne and I were invited to take some photographs for Project Homecoming to use on they’re new website that they are currently building.

If you’re in the area (or not) you should come by this Tuesday for the opening of the Sino-US Student Photography Exhibition at the Moring Art Center in Asheboro. It will include a bunch of beautiful photographs by myself and eight other incredibly talented photographers that traveled to China this past May.

Hope to see you there!

On the Greyhound…

A couple photos I took on the bus ride back from NYC.

Advantages of traveling by bus:

  • CHEAP ($80.00 round trip from Greensboro, NC)
  • Plenty of interesting characters to converse with.
  • Get to see lots of beautiful scenery on the way to your destination.
  • No security checks, a definite plus for film shooters (also a plus for people who don’t enjoy the smell of other people’s feet)
  • If you’re going to NYC, the bus goes all the way to the Port Authority in Midtown, Manhattan.
  • Did I mention it’s really cheap?

Disadvantages of traveling by bus:

  • Occasional BO problems with fellow passengers.
  • Takes about five times longer to get where you’re going. (patience is a virtue)
  • Buses make stops… definitely a disadvantage.

East River, New York City.

While staying in Brooklyn, Amanda and I wondered down to a small park next to the East River. It was pretty surreal to see people fishing with the Manhattan skyline in the background.

These are a few frames of my lovely girlfriend. Just some photos that I’ve acquired over the last 6 months or so.

By the way, besides being a generally great person she is also an amazing photographer, so you should definitely do yourself a favor and check out her blog- http://illuminationsphoto.wordpress.com/

dad

I took this photo last week, when I went to visit my dad in Scottsville, Kentucky. It’s always nice to hear him sing and play guitar because it’s something that I’ve done for my entire life and really hasn’t changed much :) .
